The Moldovan people must vote for a team of professionals, not for party leaders, Moldova’s second President Petru Lucinschi said in the program “Public Eye” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.

The former head of state expressed his regret at the fact that the leaders of the parties running in the elections say they will not form post-electoral coalitions with some of their opponents. “A parliamentary majority will be needed after the elections so that Parliament could work. What do our party leaders say? That they will not form an alliance with anyone. They should better follow the example of the European states that went through similar situations and far-right parties made a post-electoral alliance with far-left parties because the country’s interests prevailed. So, after the elections, the parties that will enter Parliament must sit at the negating table,” stated Petru Lucinschi.

He believes that it will be very hard to elect the Premier after the elections and early elections may follow. “Each party has its own candidate. I think the candidate for premiership should be fielded by the party of the future coalition that will hold the largest number of seats of MP. If Parliament does not manage to form the Government by two attempts, the head of state will have to dissolve this legislature. As to the election of the President, I consider that by 2016 the problem will be solved by amending the Constitution. I’m convinced that the head of state must be elected by the people,” he said.

Petru Lucinschi noted that the integration into the EU is the only development path for Moldova and pro-European parties’ chances to win the elections are great. “I cannot neglect the things done with the assistance of the EU during the last few years. In 2009, there were repaired only 8% of the roads, while in 2014 – 35% already. There are by 2-3 projects implemented by the EU in every village. Regretfully, there are many destabilizing factors, but the people will understand the situation,” he stated.
