Moldova’s second President Petru Lucinschi considers time hasn’t yet come for Moldova to submit an application for joining the European Union. He developed the issue in a talk show on RTR-Moldova, IPN reports.

Lucinschi believes that our country cannot file an application for accession until it does not fulfill all the conditions of the EU and does not implement the Association Agreement. “Moldova received financial support and not only from the EU. A number of conditions were imposed, which our country is obliged to meet. We must first meet the European standards. We need about ten years to implement the Association Agreement. Afterward, we will be able to speak about accession. It’s not excluded that the situation will change in the period and submitting an application for accession will not be necessary then,” argued the former head of state.

He also criticized the three pro-European parties that entered Parliament for not reaching a compromise on the formation of an alliance. “They showed inability to negotiate. They wanted to agree on details, but this is naivety. It’s not known what changes can occur until tomorrow. They should have held the negotiations on stages and the designation of the Government should have been the first stage. Neither the foreign partners, nor the foreign investors will discuss if there is a dismissed or an acting Government in the country,” he said.

Petru Lucinschi advised the parties of the government coalition to negotiate with the PCRM so as to vote in the Cabinet led by Iurie Leanca. “A similar situation was witnessed in 1998, when the Braghis Government was voted in. It was also a minority government. We negotiated then with Vladimir Voronin and the Government was ultimately voted in with the help of the Communist MPs. So, agreements with the PCRM can be reached. This would lead to an improvement in the relations with Russia,” he stated.
