Moldova’s second President Petru Lucinschi urges the people to vote for democracy and the changes that have taken place in Moldova during the last year. “I can say in all sincerity that the Alliance for European Integration did well in a period of crisis as it had a functional Government. I analyzed the work of the Government and can say that it did not make serious mistakes,” Petru Lucinschi said in a news conference on Thursday, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The former head of state called upon the voters who are disappointed with the Alliance’s performance to be more forgiving. “After December 7 (when Parliament failed to elect a President the second time – e.n.) everyone focused on elections. Earlier, they were more colleague-like and worked together to solve the problems,” Petru Lucinschi said. He urged the voters not to forget about the results achieved by the government coalition. “The Alliance managed to overcome the crisis and promote very serious policies. A lot was done during a year,” Petru Lucinschi said. Asked by the journalists if his call is related to the fact that his son Chiril Lucinschi is a candidate on the list of the PLDM for elections, Petru Lucinschi said he judges exclusively by the results obtained by the ruling alliance. “I made this call because I want to help the country. It is my duty,” he stated. In another development, the ex-head of state said the older generations vote for the old system out of habit, but they should back the younger generations. “Moldova is now at a very responsible stage and there should be united persons in Parliament. I call on the voters to support those who worked more during this year,” Petru Lucinschi said.
