The “Startup for Young People and Migrants” Program will become an effective tool in making young people in Chisinau give up their intention to leave abroad, says Petru Grecu, director of the Municipal Youth Center.

“We had a personal experience of the program to see if it works. We discussed it, we debated it. I am glad that all young people see this program as beneficial and important”, said Grecu during a debate organized by IPN.

Even if the surveys commissioned by the Municipal Youth Center haven’t revealed which types of businesses young people prefer, Petru Grecu said that “the fields of activity included in the program certainly cover the needs of young people. Especially since the Chisinau City Hall has registered a multitude of ideas regarding business incubators, which are to be developed”.

Petru Grecu mentioned his experience of being part of a delegation to Valencia, where he had several meetings with business people, including on the subject of business incubators. “It would be a great idea to bring their awesome experience here to us. I am sure this will happen (...) I am glad that the pilot program has reached its launch, being requested by young people for several years in a row”, the director revealed.

At the same time, he mentioned that young people are aware that they have to participate in the co-financing of initiated businesses, that they cannot rely only on municipal money. “Well, where do young people get their money from? Loans? ”, was the moderator’s question, to which Petru Grecu replied that young people in Chisinau are inventive and creative. “They find a solution to any challenge”, said the panelist, accepting the moderator’s suggestion that the resources could involve remittances sent by their relatives from abroad.

The program also includes training assistance for applicants. The organizers provide advice on legal issues, business skills and other areas, which would be provided within the municipal youth centers. Their network is to be expanded and developed. “Youth centers are spaces where young people learn and develop certain skills and abilities. We will propose an entrepreneurial training program, including on legal issues. We will try to be useful to young people not only in the drafting phase of the project, but throughout its development”, said Petru Grecu.
