Petrocub Hâncești has won Moldova’s Football Cup for the first time. In the final played at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau, the team trained by Lilian Popescu beat Sfântul Gheorghe Suruceni, IPN reports.
The scoreline after the normal period and overtime was 0-0. The holder of the trophy was decided in the penalty shootout. Petrocub transformed all the five penalty kicks, while Igor Bondarenco of Sfântul Gheorghe failed to score. “I congratulate my lads. They made a maximum effort,” stated Lilian Popescu.
The match was played with closed gates, but the fans could follow the game online. The supporters of the two teams could encourage their favorites through Zoom. Five large screens were placed at the stadium and the fans appeared on them during the final.
