Petras Austrevicius, European Parliament’s co-Rapporteur on the Association Agreement between the EU and Moldova, in a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti underlined the importance of swiftly forming a new Government so as to achieve the objectives assumed through the accord, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.
Petras Austrevicius said the European Parliament next week intends to extend the cooperation with Moldova by creating a platform for interaction with Moldova’s Parliament, political parties, the Central Election Commission and other national institutions and organizations.
Nicolae Timofti expressed his confidence that after a new Government is installed, the pace of doing reforms will be increased. He noted that the country remains committed to stepping up its cooperation with the EU and its institutions, saying common programs should be developed to strengthen security in the region and to limit the effects of the anti-European propaganda in the country.
The head of state said that if competition in the media space was fair, the people’s adherence to the European values would be greater. “However, despite the current media conditions that are hostile to the pro-European project, our people in the last elections showed formidable civic spirit and voted mainly for the parties that plead for integration into the EU,” stated Nicolae Timofti.
Petras Austrevicius is paying a visit to Moldova on July 2-3.
