The Government and Parliament should make public the financial reports on the spending of the taxpayers’ money paid into the mandatory health insurance fund. It is known that only the employees and employers contribute 9% a month to this fund. This money is later allocated to medical service providers for offering medical assistance to the population. Such a request is contained in an online petition that was initiated by the Center for Health Policies and Studies, IPN reports.

The signatories of the petition ask to de-secretize the financial reports of the National Health Insurance Company and medical service providers concerning the money collected as health insurance contribution. Even if more public money is annually collected in healthcare (over 6bn lei in 2017), the quality of medical services does not improve and the people do not know what the money was spent on. On the contrary, the area stagnates and the people’s confidence in the system declines, according to polls.

The petition says that there is an impressive list of medical services from which the insured persons can benefit, but 70% of the Moldovans consider the health policy is not worth the money. The signatories insist on the fact that the public authorities are obliged to provide information about the spending of public money to any citizen of the Republic of Moldova. They note that they want to take part in the decision-making process, as it is normal to do in a state that claims to be democratic and interested in the people’s problems.
