The Republic of Moldova entered a period when it enjoys even more development possibilities, Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko stated in the program “Politics” on TV8 channel. The ambassador voiced hope that during his term in office he will see how these possibilities are used massively for the people’s benefit, IPN reports.
“For me, it would be very satisfactorily if, by the same political steps by which we now build the relationship between the EU and the Republic of Moldova, after the four-year mandate I would be able to say that it was a period of time with success and results and it will be indisputable that this is the path to modernization, development and people’s welfare. It will be then clear how we should continue our cooperation,” stated Peter Michalko. He noted that there are now all the necessary instruments for achieving this and the relationship between Moldova and the EU is at a very high level as regards the Association Agreement and the association agenda that was renewed last summer.
Speaking about the conditions imposed by the European Union for providing the macro-financial assistance, especially the electoral system change, the Head of the EU Delegation said all the transformations are in the hands of the Moldovan authorities. “For us, it is important to be sure, when we carry out the assessment, that the democratic standards will not deteriorate or will not represent a risk to the voters and the candidates,” said the ambassador.
