The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said the snap parliamentary elections are a method by which the citizens can contribute to reforming the justice sector by electing a credible Parliament that would start this process. According to the diplomat, if there is a legislature that would support a reformist Government, the European Union will continue to offer financial support to the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
EU Ambassador in Chisinau Peter Michalko said the snap parliamentary elections offer the citizens the chance of a better life, if Parliament is credible and expresses the people’s will.
“The future Parliament should be credible and, in a credible way, should support a Government that would implement the program of reforms expected and asked by the citizens, which would improve people’s lives and the way in which the state institutions should serve the citizens, reforms that would enable the European Union to support more the Republic of Moldova and this would offer the people higher living standards,” Peter Michalko stated in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel.
Moreover, the diploma said the ensuring of the justice system’s independence and the fight against corruption should be the priority of the future legislature and Government created after the snap elections, as the citizens and the country’s financial partners ask.
“With a credible Parliament, it will be possible to amend the legation and to do the reforms that can ensure judicial independence. For the purposes, the people should express their wish at elections. This is the only way by which things can be changed in the justice sector, in the fight against corruption,” said the EU ambassador.
Peter Michalko is completing his duties in the Republic of Moldova. He took up as the Head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau in 2017.
