The Association Agreement signed by the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, brings positive results to the Moldovan economy. Implementing the projects envisioned by the agreement for supporting the Republic of Moldova, jobs are being created, exports to the EU member states increase, salaries rise, villages and towns develop economically, Head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau Peter Michalko stated in a news conference held to mark half of his term in office in Moldova, IPN reports.

Peter Michalko said exports to the EU rose to 66% of Moldova’s exports. This means that the Republic of Moldova develops its export capacities and improves the quality standards. Exports to the EU can increase more if the sanitary and phytosanitary measures required for products of animal origin are fully implemented.

The ambassador said the EU will continue to support the reform process in Moldova. Asked by journalists when the first installment of the EU’s €100 million in macro-financial assistance is disbursed, Peter Michalko said the EU is assessing how the imposed conditions are met. If the result of the analysis is positive, the money will be allocated by summer.

Referring to Moldova’s shortcomings in the process of doing reforms, the diplomat said these are the same as several years ago and include those in the justice sector, the fight against corruption, the respect for human rights, improvement of the business climate for attracting investors and others.
