The Party of European Socialists (PES), which is one of the most powerful political groups in the European Parliament, welcomes the formation of the Political Alliance for a European Moldova. In a message issued on January 26, PES President Sergei Stanishev voices hope that this new alliance will be able to soon form the pro-European government needed by Moldova, IPN reports, quoting a communique of the Democratic Party.
“Our friends from the Democratic Party acted in a responsible and correct way. They needed two months to achieve this important result and it’s regrettable that the Liberal Party wasn’t flexible enough to remain in the pro-European coalition at a time when the people of Moldova need political leaders who would leave the disagreements aside and would struggle together for a better life for the people,” said the European leader, noting that it’s time to start doing reforms that are the very important for the country.
“Owing to the contribution made by the Democratic Party, Moldova follows the correct path to integration into the EU and I’m convinced that together with them in power, this process will become a success for the Moldovans.”
The agreement was signed by the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat and the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu on January 23. The three pro-European parties could not reach a consensus after holding negotiations for almost two months.
