More than 30 persons evacuated from the Cantemir apartment building affected by a blast will be lodged at the former professional school of the town. The preliminary investigation results showed the explosion was caused by a gas leak.
Contacted by IPN, mayor of Cantemir Roman Ciubaciuc said that five rooms were prepared for the affected families. Three of these families have minor children. According to experts of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development, the damages caused by the explosion are estimated at about 2 million lei, but this sum refers only to the building, not yet to dwellers’ property. In several days the experts will decide if the construction will be rehabilitated or a new block will be erected.
The blast in the apartment building located on Trandafirilor St was presumably caused by a leakage of gas. There was a young man in the fourth-floor apartment where the explosion occurred. He suffered burns almost all over the body and was hospitalized in a serious condition.
About 20 apartments were affected by the powerful blast. The ceiling of an apartment located on the third floor collapsed. Three persons were hospitalized in all.
