The students of secondary general and secondary technical professional education institutions have a new mandatory module as part of the Civic Education subject. The module “Personal development and career planning” became mandatory as of January 2017. “We want the students to choose the professions that are on demand on the labor market and this way to reduce the unemployment rate,” Lia Sclifos, project manager of the Center for Entrepreneurial Education and Business Support, said in a workshop that centered on the changes made to the Civic Education subject.

Contacted by IPN, Lia Sclifos said the materials designed within the project address career orientation from multiple perspectives. The goal is to bring the students and the education system in general closer to the labor market. In the context of the Re-Engineering Vocational Orientation and Career Counselling Project, three pilot career guidance centers were set up within the employment agencies operating in Chisinau, Cahul and Soroca.

Corina Lungu, senior consultant at the Ministry of Education, said that after the project was piloted in 2016, the Ministry managed to formally introduce the module.

The workshop involved representatives of district education divisions, the Ministry of Education and the National Employment Agency. It forms part of a larger project to the value of €600,000 that is implemented with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency.
