Given that mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca is under investigation, the Ministry of Finances requested to urgently assign a person to manage the municipal budget funds. A letter to this effect was addressed to the groups of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), IPN reports.
The letter says that in the absence of the mayor, the relevant tasks were to be carried out by deputy mayors or the secretary of the CMC. As the mayor general and his deputies as well as the secretary of the CMC cannot fulfill their duties, all being investigated, the financial activity of the local budget could be blocked.
“We will make an approach to the Chisinau City Hall and to all the groups and will ask that these leave the slogans aside and help the city. In the current situation, no employee of the City Hall will want to assume responsibility for the management of budget funds and this is serious,” said Ruslan Codreanu, leader of the group of the electoral bloc “European People’s Party of Moldova — Iurie Leanca”.
Following searches carried out at the City Hall and the home of Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca last weekend, the official was arrested on charges of influence peddling in the case of pay parking lots. One day later, Chirtoaca was charged and the Buiucani-based Chisinau Court issued a warrant to place him under house arrest for 30 days.
