Members of the initiative group for creating the party “People’s Will” suspect the Central Election Commission (CEC) of manipulating the electoral registers with the aim of favoring a particular election runner, arguing their access to the electoral authority’s archive documents was denied on different pretexts.
In a news conference at IPN, Iurie Scobiola, member of the initiative group, said there are sufficient reasons to believe that the information communicated by the CEC is truncated and this was proven by the analysis of the results of the presidential runoff of December 13, 2016. Iurie Scobiola gave as example the situation in Rezina district. The data of the State Automated Information System “Elections”, presented on the CEC’s website, show that the voter turnout in Rezina district was of over 38,000. At the same time, the voting reports indicate over 42,000 voters.
The representative of the initiative group is concerned about the fact that the new composition of the CEC, instead of diversifying the information presented on the official website to simplify the people’s access to information of public interests and to reduce the time used by the CEC to provide information, acts in the opposite way.
Initiative group member Stefan Uratu formulated a number of recommendations to the CEC, including to ensure the free access of the public to its archive, to republish the information published on its website until July 1, 2016 and to take measures to diversify the posted information, to archive the electoral rolls and ensure free access to these.
The members of the initiative group for creating the party “People’s Will” said they will request the Prosecutor General’s Office to take measures to investigate the violation by the CEC of Article 62 of the Election Code, (Keeping of Electronic Documents), the regulations concerning the organization and functioning of the archive of the Central Election Commission and the regulations concerning the compilation, management, publication and updating of electoral registers.
