The People’s Party of Moldova chose Alexandru Oleinic as chairman and Valeriu Cosarciuc as deputy chairman in its third congress on May 24. The voting was held after the party’s statutes were modified and the post of co-chairman was substituted by the posts of chairman and vice-chairman, IPN reports.

Alexandru Oleinic told the delegates that the party will take part in this year’s election campaign as it is more powerful and represents an alternative to the current government that discredited itself.

Valeriu Cosarciuc said he is concerned that the government may refuse to ratify the Association Agreement with the European Union.

The head of the Youth Organization of the People’s Party Ian Lisnevschi said the party needs the support of each citizen who wants to live in a prosperous and rich country.

In the election campaign, the People’s Party of Moldova will plead for the election of the president directly by the people and for the removal of the election threshold for political parties. It aims to reinvigorate agriculture by supporting the farmers.

Founded three years ago, the party has 8,870 members. The party’s deputy chairmen will be elected by the Political Council.
