The People’s Ombudsman Office recommends the Ministry of Health to draw up legal regulations that would facilitate the process of checking the medical devices used by health facilities. The recommendation was made after four patients suffered burns caused by Roentgen rays from the old imagistic apparatus used at the Balti Municipal Hospital, IPN reports.

A recommendation is also addressed to the National Health Assessment and Accreditation Council. This is advised to work out assessment criteria and accreditation standards for public health facilities and pharmaceutical companies so that these improve the quality of services provided for the population.

The People’s Ombudsman Office considers the criteria for assessing the medical-sanitary institutions should be reviewed from the perspective of human rights and recommends the Ministry of Health to include specialists of the national institution for the promotion and protection of human rights in the list of assessing experts.

As to the incident that happened at the Balti Municipal Hospital, the People’s Ombudsman will repeatedly notify the Ministry of Health so that this reviews the normative framework on the periodical examination of medical devices owned and used by health facilities.
