People’s Movement Action has described acting President Mihai Ghimpu’s decree as a “call to arms” for the greatest battle the Moldovan society has to face – the battle for Europe. The PMA leader Sergiu Mocanu issued a press release, saying that the Alliance for European Integration should accept Ghimpu’s decree.
“President Ghimpu’s decree that declares June 28 to be the Soviet Occupation Day could have been a normal act, perhaps somewhat late, of repairing history and the other AEI leaders should accept it, at least in return for their hesitance, mistakes and servility before the Russian leaders during their government”, Mocanu said.
He also declared the decree would be a great opportunity for AEI leaders to unite the whole society for one purpose – European Integration, “by embracing the truth and parting with a nightmarish past, which made the present ambiguous and controversial”.
“Ghimpu’s decree will be a call to arms, a historical event, and European chance, because it was written with political will, human dignity and folk-like wisdom”, Mocanu said.
President Mihai Ghimpu decreed June 28, 1940, to be the Day of Soviet Occupation and Commemoration of Victims of Communism, asking Russia to retreat its troops from Moldovan territory.
