People’s Assembly to pronounce on referendum on joining Customs Union

The Comrat legislative body on December 7 will pronounce on the referendum on joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union. It is to pass a legislative initiative to this effect, submitted by the local Communist deputies, in the second reading, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press briefing on December 6, Irina Vlah, MP of the Communist faction in the Parliament of Moldova, said that this initiative was adopted in the first reading two weeks ago. According to her, the Democratic Party exerts pressure on the Comrat deputies so that they do not vote for the initiative in the final reading. Under the initiative, a local referendum on Moldova joining the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union is to be held in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Irina Vlah said the Communist faction in the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will ask the Comrat legislative body to request that the Parliament of Moldova initiate a similar referendum at the national level.
