The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia on February 3 revoked its previous decision to organize elections on April 4 this year for the reason that the composition of the Central Election Commission of Comrat, which is to organize the elections, hasn’t been yet filled. Some of the local deputies also argued that a final vote on this year’s budget hasn’t been yet given, IPN reports.

In the meeting, it was proposed that the elections should be held on April 11, but the proposal was short of votes. The bills on the composition of the Central Election Commission of Comrat and the election day will be debated in the next meeting.

The ordinary elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, which is the legislative body of Gagauzia - the Autonomous Territorial Unit with a special status as part of the Republic of Moldova – took place on November 20, 2016. The mandate of the current composition expired on January 20, four years of the convening of the first meeting. The mandate of the Central Election Commission of Comrat expired on December 24, 2020.
