The 90th anniversary of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania was marked on March 27 by a commemorative rally organized in Chisinau by the initiative group Sfatul Tarii (National Assembly).
The public meeting held in the form of a cultural event in the Great National Assembly Square started at 1.30 PM and will last by 8 PM.
The meeting participants gathered in front of the Academy of Theater, Music and Plastic Arts and then marched along Sfatul Tarii Street hand in hand, going near the Parliament’s building and stopping in the Great National Assembly Square.
According to Oleg Brega, one of the organizers of the rally, Sfatul Tarii Street was not elected at random. The Parliament of Bessarabia was based in the Academy’s building. In January 1918, the Parliament proclaimed Bessarabia an independent state and voted for Bessarabia’s union with Romania two months later, on March 27, 1918, Brega said.
The participants wanted very much to visit the Great Union Hall, but did not manage to enter the festivity hall of the Academy.
According to Brega, the hand-in-hand march symbolizes the attempt to unite the two legislatures, fact that would prove that the distance, space and time can be overcome and the historical event that took place 90 years ago can be repeated.
Oleg Brega said that three persons from among the organizers of the rally were arrested during the day and taken to the Buiucani Police Commissariat for having their documents checked. This fact was confirmed by the lawyer of the three persons, Natalia Bairam.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, representatives of the Buiucani District Police denied having detained the three persons.
