The Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM calls on the citizens to take an active part in the large-scale protest set to take place in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on August 26, starting at 2pm. The citizens are urged to take tents with them and to remain overnight in central Chisinau so as to celebrate together the 27 years of independence of the Republic of Moldova on August 27, IPN reports.

The leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth“ Andrei Nastase told a news conference that the people will take again to the streets as the government did nothing to fulfil the demands put forward by the citizens in the July 1 protest. The requests formulated by the European Parliament in its July 5 resolution were also overlooked.

“On the contrary, as a matter of urgency and against the opinions of civil society and the development partners, the government adopted the law on capital amnesty that implies big risks that the funds stolen from the banking system will be legalized and that money of international mafia will be laundered. The “anti-popular” power further contributes, by its actions and inaction, to the weakening of the rule of law. In such conditions, people’s protests should be continued with even bigger intensity,” stated Andrei Nastase.

Secretary general of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Igor Grosu said the Chisinau City Hall hasn’t yet authorized the July 26 event. According to him, they delay providing a response even if the organization of the protest was announced on July 1.

“During these days, we have few reasons to celebrate, but the independence holiday is our holiday. As we came together in the Great National Assembly Square in 1988 and obtained the right to speak the language we want, in 1992 we left with the arms in our hands to defend the independence and integrity of the state, we should now gather together again to demand that the country and our holidays be returned to us,” said the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Viorel Cibotaru.

The members of the National Resistance Movement ACUM adopted a statement saying the Independence Day on August 27 is the holiday of people, not of the usurper. They call on the residents of Chisinau to bring food and water to those who will stay overnight in central Chisinau and call upon the government not to try to infiltrate instigators into the crowd.

The Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM was created in reaction to the decision to invalidate the Chisinau early mayoral elections and has heavyweights of the PAS, PPPDA, PLDM and active representatives of civil society among its leaders.
