In order to comprehend the image of the current government, it’s enough to go out and listen to the people’s discontents, considers Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenco. In a public debate held at IPN, the MP said the political image is built by the politicians by their deeds and policy.

“The government is perceived as another world as the rulers live in another world and do not see the realities. They are considered thieves who steal the EU funds. I don’t know what they will say in the next elections besides the fact that they closed the schools, reduced the number of budget-funded places in education institutions and made hundreds of thousands of people to go abroad,” said the lawmaker, criticizing the reforms done by the Pro-European Coalition.

He also said that the government has an incorrect attitude towards the opposition and limits its right to put forward legislative initiatives or refuse to debate these initiatives. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the opposition does not have control powers in certain public institutions. When the Communist Party was in power, many of these posts were held by representatives of the opposition parties.

On the other hand, after describing the government’s image as negative, Grigore Petrenco avoided discussing the image of the parliamentary opposition as perceived by society, saying it is the people who should do this.

The public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” is the 23rd of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” that are organized with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
