The owners of pawnshops say few people go after the things they pawn, especially in winter. The subject was discussed in the program “Tara lui Dogaru” on Publika TV, Info-Prim Neo reports. Economic expert Svetlana Chesari said that this phenomenon is an indicator of the economic situation in the country and shows that the monopolist service providers set the tariffs as they like. Dora Moraru, who retired 18 years ago, complained that she remained only with old things that the pawnshops do not accept. She had to sell most of her belongings so that she could pay the bills. Eduard Mihalas, chairman of the National Youth Council, said that the phenomenon is influenced by the high jobless rate, especially among young people. After they graduate from a faculty, they do not want to work for a salary of only 1 000 lei. He also said that the young people do not realize that they cannot have a high salary without experience and recommended the students to become involved in volunteer activities so as to be justified to ask for a higher pay later. Eduard Mihalas stressed that it is the duty of the authorities to fulfill their obligations as regards the improvement of the legislation, but every person should invest in their own future since youth so that they have a secure old age.
