One of the problems faced by the current government is the fact that the Moldovan people started to become tired of the European integration slogans in the conditions in which they don’t really feel something palpable and definite improvements, considers political analyst Oazu Nantoi. In the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, he said that the ordinary people perceive the European prospects through the shortcomings of the government, while the positive consequences haven’t yet reached them, Info-Prim Neo reports. “On August 27, 1991, the Republic of Moldova proclaimed its independence. What can we boast of now? Is the European integration indispensable for having independent and functional justice and for fighting corruption? Regretfully, we have pretended to build a state during 20 years,” said Oazu Nantoi. He also said that society inherited very serious problems from the past. “We now pay the price of the problems that accumulated over time. This state of affairs came into conflict with the commitments made to the European Union and this conflict emerged,” stated the analyst. The head of the Republican People’s Party Nicolae Andronic believes that the current government generated too many expectations among the people and promises that the situation will change. But these expectations can ruin hopes, while the rulers didn’t know that this process lasts and that we must do our homework. According to him, Moldova may sign the Free Trade Agreement with the EU in autumn, not yet the Association Agreement. Nicolae Andronic also said that the ruling alliance couldn’t clearly explain what European integration means. The people should know that besides advantages, there are certain elementary rules and norms that must be respected. “I think the current government should be sincere and tell the people the truth. The people have expectations and when nothing is done they are dissatisfied,” he stated. The Premier’s consultant on foreign policy Nicu Popescu considers that the reformation process must be accelerated for Moldova to come closer to the EU as the absence of reforms, especially in justice and the law enforcement institutions, can deprive Moldova of the European future. “We cannot go towards Europe with empty slogans and politicized, corrupt and nonfunctional institutions. This is the stake,” he said.
