Deputy Prime Minister responsible for the country's reunification Victor Osipov stressed the necessity of creating conditions for the free movement of the people and goods between the two banks of the Nistru River, of supporting the Transnistrian economic entities and the population. He made related statements at a meeting with Valery Nesterushkin, the Ambassador for special assignments of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and Marat Kulahmetov, consultant of the Russian Foreign Minister on peacekeeping matters. The Transnistrian conflict was also discussed at the meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Government's press service.
Victor Osipov reiterated that the Government is open for dialogue and cooperation in settling the Transnistrian dispute, building confidence between the people living on the two banks of the Nistru and creating a favorable atmosphere for holding the talks in the 5+2 format.
He emphasized the important role played by Russia in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and the necessity of improving the Joint Control Commission's work and changing the format of the peacekeeping mission in the Security Zone.
For his part, Valery Nesterushkin praised the new Moldovan authorities for the openness and constructive attitude in promoting the settlement process. He highlighted the necessity of continuing the political dialogue on the Transnistrian dispute and stepping up the consultations on this issue.
