On April 1, pensions will be indexed by 10%. The indexation coefficient will be applied only for the part of the pension that does not exceed the amount of the average monthly salary in the economy, forecast for 2025, in the amount of 16,100 lei. This is provided in a draft law that was given a first reading Parliament on Thursday, IPN reports.
MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Marina Morozova, who is also one of the authors, said that the draft law proposes "to change the indexation mechanism, which will bring greater support for pensioners".
Under the current legislation, pensions are indexed annually on April 1, and the indexation coefficient is the inflation rate at the end of the previous year. "We propose indexing the pensions by 10%, which is higher than the inflation rate of 6.9%. We not only cover the inflation rate, but we also come up with an increase in pensions – a measure that not only protects the purchasing power of pensioners, but is a greater support for the elderly," said Marina Morozova.
According to the MP, the Cabinet identified the financial resources needed for the implementation of this bill.
