Effective on April 1, pensions will be indexed by 5.3% under a legal amendment adopted today by the Government in a caretaker capacity and which modifies the indexation formula, IPN reports.
Whereas previously pensions were indexed in accordance with inflation in the previous year, the updated formula averages inflation for the last three years.
“Per the old formula, the indexation rate was low, at around 3%. Therefore, after discussing with all our colleagues from the relevant ministries, we decided to change that formula. I’d like to disappoint all those who have proven themselves to be all talk. So here we are, the people of action, showing responsibility”, declared Prime Minister Pavel Filip.
“This taking-over procedure is something done as a matter of exception. The pension indexation and the payment of 600 lei to pensioners and social benefit recipients are measures that must take effect on April 1. So, there is no time to wait until a majority in Parliament is formed to pass these bills”, added Filip.
