The Pensioners Union of the Republic of Moldova said the pensioners will support the candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, who is the common candidate of the center-right opposition, in the runoff presidential elections. A group of members of the Union called on all the pensioners of the country and not only to vote for Maia Sandu on November 13 because only a President like her will manage to initiate the process of rooting out corruption and of freeing the state from captivity.
In a news conference at IPN, chairman of the Pensioners Union Victor Leanca read the call whereby the pensioners express their regret at the fact that the young people voted passively in the first round of voting. “Of the two candidates, Maia Sandu and Igor Dodon, we must choose as President the one who is closer to the people and their legitimate wishes, the most upright person who is able to make changes for everyone’s benefit and will free the country from the captivity of the oligarchs who are unwanted by the depressed and humiliated people,” he stated.
The pensioners say the November 13 vote will determine the country’s future. “The election of Missis Sandu as President is a real chance for ensuring peace and harmony between us, a chance for restoring confidence in this country’s future and for stopping the emigration of young people. Only with such a President, will we enjoy assistance in doing a real reform in the pension system,” said Victor Leanca.
The signatories also say that the election of the Socialist candidate Igor Dodon as President will mean strengthening of the corrupt regime. This will lead to a massive exodus of active citizens from Moldova. They note they do not want to scare someone, but the election of Igor Dodon, followed by the exodus of young people, will cause the collapse of the pension system. “We call on you to massively support Maia Sandu in the runoff vote. Only by our direct involvement, can we restore hope in this country’s future, in the future of our children and grandchildren near us. Vote Maia Sandu – a President of the people and for the people,” reads the statement.
Chisinau councilor Oazu Nantoi, political commentator, said the signatories of the call do not want posts or awards. They are people with dignity and want a correct President who would contribute to the country’s prosperity.
Academician Gheorghe Baciu added that they want a person able to take the country out of the morass in which it got stuck to be elected as President.
