The head of the Human Resources Service of Penitentiary No. 17 of Rezina was sentenced to seven years in jail for acts of corruption. Last summer the man, together with a police officer, asked for €1,000 from a person for helping him get the job of supervising guardian at the penitentiary, IPN reports.
The money was transmitted to the police officer in two tranches and was divided with the penitentiary employee. During searches, the money was found at the place of the policeman and in the convict’s car.
The Chisinau Military Court found the accused guilty of passive corruption and sentenced him to seven years’ imprisonment. He was also fined 120,000 lei, banned from holding public posts for a period of eight years and deprived of the special rank of justice major. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
The police officer is investigated in a separate case.
