The use of cordless phones that were not certified or do not meet the technical requirements is banned and is punished in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) warn that the use of such phones affects the normal functioning of the public mobile telephone networks, IPN reports.

In a communiqué, the ANRCETI says that perturbations appear after the population uses radiotelephones banned in Europe. The given telephones are brought to Moldova from North American countries. They use the same frequency as the 3G mobile phone services.

In this connation, the Ministry and the Agency note that the number of administrative proceedings over harmful perturbations in 3G networks has increased in the last two months.

Under the Code of Administrative Offenses, the causing of perturbations that affect radio reception is fined 400 to 1,400 lei in the case of private individuals and 800 to 4,000 lei in the case of legal entities, while the hampering of the functioning of telecommunications equipment and lines is punished with a fine of up to 10,000 lei.

The ICT Ministry and ANRCETI recommend the consumers of electronic communication services not to purchase and not to use uncertified radiotelephones. Further information on the issue can be obtained on the Agency’s green line 080080080 (free call) and on 022 735394.
