The traveling without tickets by regular suburban, interurban and international bus and minibus routes will be penalized with a fine of a fine of 800 to 1,200 lei, imposed on the driver and the responsible person who allows the vehicle to set off. This is one of the changes made by the Government to the Code of Administrative Offenses and other pieces of legislation, IPN reports.

The driver or the persons responsible for issuing tickets will be fined for not giving tickets to the passengers. Penalties will be also imposed for traveling without ticket by trains, electrical and naval transport.

Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vasile Botnari said the goal of the changes is to redirect the responsibilities for imposing penalties for traveling without ticket by public units of transport from the carriers to the drivers, platform inspectors and conductors.

“Currently, the transport companies are fined up top 50,000 lei for trips without tickets. Many of them are close o bankruptcy. But the drivers who transport passengers illegally are fined at most 9,000 lei for all the passengers, even if there are 50 persons. It is not equitable. The carriers will be fined up to 10,000 lei for every violation when it is determined that they do not monitor the ticket issuing process and do not issue tickets to drivers or conductors,” said the minister.

Under the bill with amendments, the passengers who will not buy tickets for suburban, interurban and international bus and minibus and railway and naval transportation routes will be fined 200 to 600 lei. The traveling without ticket by regular internal and electrical urban bus and minibus routes will be penalized with a fine of 150 to 400 lei.
