Persons who will commit acts of violence against health professionals will be fined up to 7,500 lei or will be placed under arrest for up to 15 days. A bill to supplement the Contravention Code was passed by Parliament in the final reading on March 23, IPN reports.
Under the law, the premeditated damaging of the honor, dignity and professional reputation of the healthcare providers will be punished with a fine of 500 to 1 250 lei. The insulting of medical specialists, accompanied by acts of hooliganism and bodily injuries, will be punished with a fine of up to 7,500 lei or with up to 15 days under arrest.
According to the authors of the bill, the legislative changes will create efficient mechanisms for protecting the health and rights of healthcare providers. According to statistics, about 100 cases of different forms of violence against medical staff, including of verbal, psychological and even physical abuse, are recorded annually.
