The obligation not to leave the country or the locality could be imposed for a period of at most 12 months cumulatively if a person is accused of committing a minor or a serious offense for which the law envisions a prison term of at most 12 years.
If the person is accused of committing a very serious offense for which the law envisions a jail term of over 12 years, the obligation not to leave the country or the locality is imposed for at most 24 months cumulatively. Changes to the Penal Procure Code were passed by Parliament after considering these in the first reading, IPN reports.
The given bill was drafted by the Ministry of Justice in order to execute the Constitutional Court’s judgment by which the unconstitutionality of the omission to regulate the maximum length for which the obligation not to leave the country as a preventive measure can be imposed was ascertained.
