Peacekeepers post on Cocieri-Dubasari-Rabnita roadway removed

The Joint Control Commission (JCC) decided Thursday, February 1, to remove the peacekeeping forces post placed on Cocieri-Dubasari-Rabnita roadway, near the Cocieri village, which was set following a conflict occurred over two weeks ago between the Moldovan policemen and Transnistrian militia, Moldova’s representative in JCC Ion Leahu told Info-Prim Neo. As Leahu says, the post was removed at around 3.00 pm and the situation will be monitored by the military observers of the peacekeeping troops. The parties committed not to set law-enforcement posts in that place. The problem regarding the evacuation of the Police Commissariat of Bender was also brought up for discussion at the Thursday’s JCC meeting. As Leahu says, Tiraspol representatives continued to insist on removing this post, while the Moldovan side advocated for keeping it. According to Leahu, JCC members adopted an intermediary decision according to which the special working shall convene to examine the respective issue. The group, composed of representatives of Transnistrian and Moldovan law-enforcement bodies in the JCC, and representatives of Russia, Ukraine and OSCE will be summoned on Tuesday, February 6. Depending on the group’s decision, the issue might be further examined at the JCC meeting on February 8. The placement of a community of Cossacks in Slobozia was another tackled problem. The Transnistrian side tried to show that they have existed there since tsarist times, but the argument was not convincing and, as a result, the report of the military commandment that presented the Cossacks’ placement was not approved, Leahu added. On January 12, Moldovan policemen came into conflict with Transnistrian militia after a mobile police post was placed several metres far from the established place. On January 13, as a result of the JCC extraordinary meeting, a peacekeeper post has been set to ensure the security in the zone on the roadway between Dubasari and Cocieri.
