The Democratic Party (PDM) will state its opinion on the promulgation by President Nicolae Timofti of the controversial package of laws passed by the votes of the Liberal-Democratic and Communist MPs on May 3 next week. Democratic MP Igor Corman has told IPN that the position will be made public after a meeting of the party.

“We will soon have a position and will make it known. At this stage, we are holding consultations and examining the situation,” said Igor Corman. Earlier, the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu called on Nicolae Timofti not to promulgate the given laws. Otherwise, the PDM will find it difficult to sit at the negotiating table.

Nicolae Timofti promulgated four of the five controversial bills. Now that they were promulgated, the National Anticorruption Center will be managed by the Government, not Parliament as earlier, while the election threshold for entering Parliament is higher. The powers of the outgoing Cabinet and the interim Prime Minister were extended. The interim Premier will be able to field candidates for ministers and to propose dismissing them. The head of state sent only the bill that enables lawmakers to dismiss the Constitutional Court judges to Parliament back for reexamination.
