The president of the Democratic Party (PDM) Pavel Filip said now the country needs a functional government that would manage the pandemic crisis. The PDM will not vote for a candidate who enjoys the support of Shor. But the party’s parliamentary group will have discussions with the candidate nominated by presidential decree so as to see if this intends to really govern and has a government program or will come to Parliament to ask for zero votes, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, the Democratic leader said the country needs a functional government without which it will cope with difficulty. A functional government can amend the budget, can unlock foreign financing etc.
“Snap parliamentary elections will anyway be held in autumn. They probably intend to use now the second attempt (to vote in the Government, e.n.) so as to dissolve Parliament, but you will hear later that elections and a campaign cannot be held now as the people would be infected and we will anyway reach autumn. If we compare this situation with the PDM’s proposal, you will see a difference. In fact, we said that the snap elections should be held closer to autumn, but we proposed a functional government that would handle the pandemic crisis,” stated Pavel Filip.
After negotiations held with the parliamentary groups on March 16, President Maia Sandu said that she took note of Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership and, as there was no candidate supported by a formalized parliamentary majority, she decided to propose PAS president Igor Grosu for Prime Minister. On March 17, the Party of Socialists challenged the presidential decree in the Constitutional Court and the next day announced the formation of a parliamentary majority that proposed current Ambassador of Moldova to Russia Vladimir Golovatiuc for Prime Minister.
