The Democratic Party (PDM) will not have an own candidate for the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality, but is ready to support a common candidate of the pro-European parties and the parties of the right, the party’s leader Vlad Plahotniuc announced in a press briefing held after the weekly meeting of the PDM, IPN reports.

Vlad Plahotniuc said the Chisinau City Hall risks being taken over by the Party of Socialists because the parties of the right and the European parties are fragmented, while the people have a clear position as to the direction that should be followed. The only solution is to negotiate a common candidate who will be upright and will have the capacity to manage the affairs in the municipality.

According to the politician, a common candidate of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, the Liberal Party and the European People’s Party of Moldova, who will be supported by the PDM, has real chances of winning the early local mayoral elections in the municipality of Chisinau and of making the Socialists suffer a categorical defeat. “We are ready to support even the harshest critics of the PDM. We must combine forces so as not to lose the City Hall,” stated the Democratic leader.

Vlad Plahotniuc rejected the accusations that the party he heads, by its actions, would try to postpone the local mayoral elections until autumn so that they are held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections or would have urged the Government not to allocate money for organizing the elections. “The position of the PDM is that the elections should be held within the legal timeframes,” he said.

The Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” fielded the party’s leader Andrei Nastase as a candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau.
