The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) set its goal for the next term of the local government to significantly expand its presence in Chisinau Municipality. This goal will be the basis for the faction’s actions for the next three years and was adopted at the Conference of the PDM Chisinau Municipal Organization (OM PDM). The event took place on Saturday, April 7, and gathered about 400 delegates and guests, as well as the party's leadership, Info-Prim Neo reports.
PDM head Marian Lupu asked for responsibility, organization and consolidation from his party colleagues. “The last years have proven some realities. Since 2009, the Democratic Party has made it in the Parliament and has a stable basis. The local elections doubled our number of local elected officials. However, these tendencies don’t illustrate the situation in Chisinau, where we obtained below-par results”, he said.
Marian Lupu reminded that PDM obtained only 3.14% in Chisinau at the local elections in 2011. He added that from now on he would personally supervise each sector. “We have intellectual and human resources, but there is also laziness, irresponsibility and interests that activate only when some decisions directly related to some persons must be taken. It’s over with this. We’ll work differently. The party is mother and father. There will be direct responsibility before the party. We’ll work with those who resist this rigor, the rest must step aside. This is the message I had to tell you”, declared Lupu.
The party leader added that each member had to work to fulfill the obligations assumed during the local electoral campaign. Marian Lupu announced that the parliamentary faction prepared a draft law to change the pension system to the benefit of people with low pensions.
“The Democratic Party has the difficult fate of being between two sides: left and right, which often leads to conflict situations. PDM must be a bridge for dialogue. The Democratic Party needs the chance to influence the practical life of Moldova”, said Dumitru Diacov, PDM honorary president and head of the parliamentary faction.
He added that the period of uncertainty, when nobody knew what to expect- early elections or the election of the president, was over. “These times are over. Now, we have a better prepared and developed army of party members. We must calm the country so that people felt comfortable”, said Dumitru Diacov.
“At this meeting we want to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of our team. What’s sure is that we failed to make the most of our party’s potential at the last local elections. Our efforts weren’t fully focused on the modernization and expansion of the party’s municipal organization. We want to build the strongest party organization on the political arena of Moldova. That’s why we must focus all our will, strength and skills to raise the visibility and representation of the municipal organization and our internal structures”, declared Pavel Filip, PDM Chisinau leader.
One of the particular aspects that were highlighted was the need to develop primary organizations as the basic unit of the party and internal party organizations such as the organization of elderly people, the women’s organization, the youth organization, the organization of PDM local elected officials.
The goal of raising the visibility of OM PDM Chisinau will be achieved by applying information technologies. In order to increase the efficiency of the communication process with party members and voters, an electronic register SAI Roster of party members was created and the bulk-SMS service was launched, both being highly efficient tools of keeping count and communicating with party members. A new design of the PDM webpage was developed. It will contain apps for iPhone and Android and will be launched shortly.
The Conference elected the new memberships of the Chisinau municipal organization council, the Executive Bureau and Censor’s Commission of the municipal communication.
The Conference Resolution was voted unanimously. It set the following goals: the party will improve its organizational capacities, its number of members and modernize the tools of communication with its members and voters in Chisinau by applying new technologies.
The organizers say that OM PDM Chisinau has 4500 members, that is one member per 135 voters.
