The Democratic Party of Moldova considers the Liberal Democratic Party’s decision not to take part in the negotiations shows irresponsibility and cowardice given the current situation in the country and the region. In a communique, the PDM says the negotiations with the responsible pro-European parties and independent lawmakers will continue the coming days, IPN reports.

According to the PDM, this decision of the former colleagues from the pro-European alliance forms part of a series of populist acts and instigating statements by which the PLDM shocked the people of Moldova, starting with the moment when this party’s de facto leader was accused of acts of corruption.

“What the PLDM hides from the public opinion is the fact that it is close to disintegration, while the decision to avoid responsibility for governance in a very difficult moment for the country has also other kinds of undertones by which this party is trying to hide its agony: the PLDM is afraid to enter negotiations for the reason that it does not know on how many of its MPs it can count. This is the real reason why the Lib-Dems decided to shift to the opposition. It is an attempt to conserve themselves and to hide from public opinion so as not to answer politically for the acts of corruption supported by some of the Liberal-Democratic leaders,” reads the communique.

The PDM also says that the Democrats’ objective is not political, but national in character and is to form soon a new pro-European government that will be able to swiftly implement the necessary reforms, in conditions of stability.

After the meeting of the PLDM’s National Political Council in the evening of November 4, the party’s acting leader Valeriu Strelet announced that they decided not to take part in the negotiations on the formation of a new pro-European alliance, initiated by the Democratic Party. Among the invoked reasons was the fact that the PLDM does not consider the PDM a pro-European party as this party took the state institutions under control and seriously violated the agreement to form the AEI 3 by voting for the dismissal of a pro-European government together with the Socialist and Communist MPs, who are in the opposition.
