After the new seats of MP are validated, the Democratic Party could force the issue and form a minority government with the assistance of some of the Socialist MPs. The issue was developed by former candidates for MP in the program “Country” on Vocea Basarabiei TV channel, IPN reports.
Ex-minister of defense Vitalie Marinuța, who ran on behalf of the Ecologist Green Party, said the parliamentary elections were won by populist parties. Politics is the art of compromise and each party should leave a door open for talks. “I do not think we will have rerun or snap elections. The messages transmitted by the Democratic Party show this, while the so-called opposition – the PSRM – confirms this,” stated Vitalie Marinuță. According to him, judging by all the signals, a minority government will be formed and the Socialists will support the initiatives they consider beneficial to them.
Jurist Teodor Cîrnaț, who ran on behalf of the People’s Will Party, stated the Democratic Party in the near future could force the issue and form a minority government, as it already happened earlier, and the leader of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc could take over the post of Prime Minister. The Democrats could force some of the Socialists to leave their group and vote the minority government.
The president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said he regrets that unionists will not form part of the future Parliament. The unionist current should be consolidated as only this current, together with the pro-European one, can form a majority in Moldovan politics. The Liberals didn’t form a unionist bloc together with other parties because they didn’t manage to do this after the PL wasn’t accepted into the bloc NOW. “After that, during three days a unionist bloc could not be created and those who wanted could run on the list of the Liberal Party, as those from Unirea-ODIP and People’s Council 2 did. This is all what we managed to do during those three days,” he stated, adding he will urge the unionists to join the PL and to together promote the union with Romania.
On March 5, representatives of the Party of Socialists said all the 35 newly-elected Socialist MPs signed a statement by which these pledge to work in the new legislative body as part of a united team. “If pressure is exerted to leave the group, they will prefer to vacate the seat of MP than to betray the team and the people’s vote”.
