The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) and the electoral staff of candidate Marian Lupu attribute the merit for what they call ‘abandonment of the electoral race’ by the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase to themselves, IPN reports, quoting a press statement of the PDM’s press service.

“The Democratic Party of Moldova and the electoral staff of candidate Marian Lupu took notice of the abandonment of the electoral race by the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase. This abandonment was predictable. It comes at a very important moment when all the opinion polls show an evident increase in the voter preferences rating of candidate Marian Lupu and the people’s conviction that he is the candidate with the biggest chances of competing in the runoff against the Socialists’ representative Igor Dodon,” says the statement.

According to this, the withdrawal of Andrei Nastase is directly related to the improvement of the rating of the PDM’s candidate as this realizes that he has no chances in the electoral race. “The reason why a common candidate was chosen is also related to the fact that Marian Lupu is rated by the people as the candidate with greater potential of continuing the country’s European course and of solving people’s problems, as the latest opinion polls clearly show.

“For the PDM and Marian Lupu, Igor Dodon remains the only dangerous candidate, as we announced at the beginning of the election campaign, because he comes with a very clear project for stopping the European course and dividing the country. Igor Dodon is the top opponent of Marian Lupu. The Socialists’ candidate is the main danger threatening the Republic of Moldova,” says the statement disseminated on October 13.

The same day, the candidate for President of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu announced that the leaders of the PAS, PPPDA and PLDM discussed her nomination as a common candidate for the October 30 presidential elections. She said that the PPPDA and PLDM during the next few days will convoke their executive bodies to take a final decision. According to her, the results of the second poll were made public and these show that she will gain more votes and has bigger chances of beating the Socialists’ candidate Igor Dodon than Andrei Nastase.
