The Communists Party of Moldova (PCRM) says it will boycott the legislature's work and will initiate a national referendum whereby the people could give a vote of no confidence to the present government. The announcement comes after the Alliance for European Integration made public its decision to hold a referendum on the modification of the Constitution and avoid thus early parliamentary elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Communist MPs Igor Dodon and Vadim Misin accused the leaders of the Alliance of usurping the state power. “On March 9, 2010, Moldova witnessed the most serious challenge resulting from the wrongdoings of several persons who put the personal interests above the people's and country's interests and consider they have the right to overturn the juridical logic of the national democratic system,” Igor Dodon said in a briefing on March 10.
The MPs said the Communist parliamentary group will not take part in the plenary sittings of the Parliament. “The PCRM will immediately initiate a national referendum to give a vote of no confidence to the government and the caretaker president. Only by referendum can the Moldovan society be unified and the democratic principles restored,” Igor Dodon said.
The four leaders of the Alliance for European Integration on March 9 announced they decided that a national referendum on the amendment of the Constitution will be held by June 16 in order to avoid early legislative elections.
