The Party of Communists (PCRM) supports the idea of holding a national referendum on the annulment of the law by which the mixed-member election system was introduced before the 2018 parliamentary elections, which was put forwards by a number of civil society organizations. The Communist leader informed about this in a news conference, IPN reports.

“Today or tomorrow, we will take a political decision on the issue. But I want to say from the start that we will support this idea and will together collect signatures in favor of this referendum so as to obtain the required 200,000 signatures,” stated Vladimir Voronin, noting that the PCRM will actively become involved in this process.

Speaking about the referendum on the dismissal of the mayor general of Chisinau, Vladimir Voronin said the ten years during which the Liberal team managed the city are lost years as the City Hall became a place that houses stealing and corruption. This is the reason why the PCRM took part in the referendum and called on is supporters to also vote.

The Communist leader noted the referendum had nothing to do with the goals declared by those who initiated it. Not accidentally, the local plebiscite was held almost simultaneously with the electoral system change and this was a kind of barter between the Party of Socialists and the Democratic Party. Thus, the Socialists supported the introduction of the electoral system for being allowed to have a local referendum in Chisinau.

Vladimir Voronin also said that the Democratic Party now controls the municipality even if it has only one councilor on the Chisinau Municipal Council. “In this case, we can definitely speak about an attack on the Chisinau City Hall and about the capturing of the City Hall,” he stated, adding that Dorin Chirtoaca was removed so that Nistor Grozavu could take over and could sign the order to name Silvia Radu, who promotes the interests of the Democrats, as acting mayor.

Referring to the one-year presidency of Igor Dodon, Vladimir Voronin said the post of Head of State became a decorative one. Igor Dodon should have tendered his resignation long ago as it is a shame to see how a President is neglected and his opinion is ignored. But Igor Dodon, who aspired to high-ranking posts, is himself to blame for this.
