The constitutional amendment proposal put forward by the Communist Party, which the Communists want to withdraw, was not included in the agenda of the Parliament’s sittings of February 10 – 18. After Friday’s meeting of the Parliament’s Standing Bureau, Speaker Marian Lupu told the journalists that the legal commission for appointments and immunities will first pronounce on the legality of the PCRM withdrawing its proposal and will then take a decision, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu confirmed that the PCRM filed an application to Parliament, asking that its proposal be withdrawn. “We have a rather delicate situation. The Parliament’s regulations do not clearly say how the constitutional proposals can be withdrawn,” Marian Lupu said. The PCRM’s proposal, which was approved by the Constitutional Court, provides for holding a third round of voting if the head of state is not elected by two rounds. The President is to be elected by 51 votes in the third round, as against 61 and 57 in the first two. In the first settings of the ordinary session during February 10 – 18, the MPs will examine and put to the vote over 20 bills and draft decisions, including the draft decision on naming and confirming the members of the Central Election Commission, the draft decision on the dismissal of a number of MPs, and bills to amend laws. The MPs are to vote on bills with amendments to the law on allowances for temporary incapacity for work and other benefits, and to the law on the Security and Information Service, and on a bill on education.
