The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) will not vote in Parliament the amendments to the Election Code proposed by the Democratic Party, which envision the introduction of a uninominal voting system, the party’s leader Vladimir Voronin said in a press briefing on March 17, IPN reports.

Vladimir Voronin read a statement of the party’s Central Committee, which says that despite the shortcomings witnessed in the Moldovan electoral system during the past few years, there are now no plausible arguments to convince the Party of Communists that these can be overcome by instituting elections by uninominal constituencies.

“The switchover to the majority electoral system, in our opinion, will worsen the existing problems and will give birth to new problems. It will be easier to bribe voters and elected MPs and this can lead to the concentration of the whole state power in the hands of a narrow group of people who now push these changes to the Election Code by all ways. The administrative resources will be used wider, starting from the candidate registration stage,” said the Communist leader.

In the same press briefing, Communist MP Oxana Domenti announced that the Communist parliamentary group registered a legislative initiative to suspend the decision to increase the prices of medical services that was approved recently by the Government.
