PCRM never wanted Marian Lupu to be head of state

The Communists Party (PCRM) made a blunder when they designated Marian Lupu, former member of the PCRM and current leader of the PDM, as Head of Parliament in 2005. Therefore, they did not propose him for head of state after April 5, said the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin. During a program on Pro TV channel on Monday evening, the current leader of the Opposition and former head of state Vladimir Voronin reiterated he does not regret that Marian Lupu and other influential members left the PCRM “The party is cleaning itself up after eight years of work. It's a normal thing,” he said. “Half a year after appointing Lupu as Speaker, we realized that we made a blunder. We tolerated him during four years and treated him nicely. During about a year, Lupu has been downcast as he understands he will never be President,” Vladimir Voronin said. The Communist leader denied the rumors that in his decisions he is influenced by his former adviser Mark Tkachuk. But he said that it was Tkachuk was advised MP Igor Dodon, former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Greceanyi Government, to join the Communists Party. Voronin refused again to say who is the likely successor to him as party leader. Vladimir Voronin also said that for the 2010 local elections, the PCRM will prepare a very powerful candidate for the post of Mayer of Chisinau, not necessarily a member of the party.
