Gagauz politologist Fiodor Angheli anticipates that the Communists Party (PCRM) may support independent candidate Nicolai Dudoglo in the second round of voting for electing the Governor of Gagauzia, as a result of a possible alliance between the PSD (Social-Democratic Party) and the PCRM. “Selin (the president of the PSD) will insist that the PCRM issue a statement in support of Dudoglo because Selin invested a lot there and every party pursues its own interests,” Fiodor Angheli stated for Info-Prim Neo The politologist voiced hope that the second round of voting on December 26 will take place in a calm and democratic atmosphere as the first round held on December 12. Fiodor Angheli criticized the private TV channel NIT that campaigned for the Communist candidate Irina Vlah before the elections and the regional public television in Comrat, which reported an event involving Communist MP Vadim Misin. “It is not right for the official Chisinau to interfere in the internal affairs of Gagauzia and it is not normal for somebody to give orders from Chisinau,” said Fiodor Angheli. According to the preliminary results of the first round of voting, incumbent Governor Mihai Formuzal polled 37% of the vote, the mayor of Comrat Nicolai Dudoglo – over 32%, while Communist candidate Irina Vlah – 31%. Thus, Mihai Formuzal and Nicolai Dudoglo will compete in the second round. Fiodor Angheli had served as Moldova's Ambassador to Turkey in 1998-2001.
