The Communists Party (PCRM) condemns the Liberal-Democratic coalition's intentions to review the Constitution of Moldova and the electoral legislation.
The Communist opposition says the intentions derive from momentary group interests. On the other hand, the MPs of the Alliance for European Integration say the modifications would help overcome the political crisis that could become chronic for Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We consider that the proposals by pseudo-scientists, lawyers and active members of the new government coalition to adopt a new Constitution – the initiative proposed by the 'scientist number one' Mihai Ghimpu – run counter to all the democratic principles and international practices,” the PCRM says in a statement.
The Communists also say that there are no precedents in the world when the Constitution is modified as a result of a political crisis. “Such actions can be taken only by the present government of Moldova.”
They announced they will not take part in the work of the commission for the optimization of the electoral legislation.
The Alliance's candidate for the presidency Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic Party, said that if a referendum to modify the Constitution is held, there will be modified the procedure for electing the head of state, not the government principles.
“I consider that the modification of the procedure for electing the head of state is an inherent, even possible stage. Who can guarantee that we will not face a similar situation if early elections are held? The political class is obliged to make changes to overcome the political crisis and not allow this crisis to become chronic,” Lupu said.
