The Party of Communists maintains the call to boycott the elections for the runoff vote too. The party’s leader Vladimir Voronin told a news conference that the position of the Communists produced results as the voter turnout in the first round of presidential elections was under 50%, IPN reports.

According to the Communist leader, the current government made a farce of the election of the President and it does not matter already who of the two runoff candidates, Maia Sandu (PAS) or Igor Dodon (PSRM), wins. None of these is good. Regardless of who wins the elections, the people will be disappointed because they have expectations of the future President, but the country remains a parliamentary republic and the Head of State does not have many powers.

Inna Supac, who heads the Communist parliamentary group, said the people earlier took an active part in elections, both in the presidential elections before 2000 and in the parliamentary elections. But during the last few years participation was low. The minimum voter turnout of 50% should be restored as the current one, of one third of the voters written on the electoral rolls, is not representative.
